ASU offers scholarships for eligible online students. Once admitted to ASU, submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and you'll automatically be considered based on your eligibility. No separate scholarship application required.
How to apply for an ASU Online scholarship
Once you're admitted to an online program at ASU, you need to submit your FAFSA to be automatically considered for a scholarship. If you qualify, you’ll receive notification by email.
Available ASU Online scholarships
Here's an overview of scholarships through the ASU Online Scholarship program available for fall 2026 to eligible undergraduate students seeking their first bachelor’s degree. Scholarship awards are made for fall 2026 and are renewable for recipients who remain eligible.
- ASU Online Opportunity Scholarship
- Ensures you receive up to $375 per credit hour in financial aid funding. Your award amount is determined after other eligible financial aid, including the Pell Grant, has been applied.
- Eligibility
- Open to Arizona and out-of-state residents enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) each spring and fall semester.
- To qualify:
- Complete the FAFSA
- Minimum 3.00 unweighted high school or cumulative transfer GPA
- Family income of $120,000 or less
- Meet all Satisfactory Academic Progress standards, including maintaining a minimum 2.00 ASU cumulative GPA
- ASU Online AZ Transfer Scholarship
- Ensures you receive up to $375 per credit hour in financial aid funding. Award amount is determined after other eligible financial aid, including the Pell Grant, has been applied.
- Eligibility
- Open to Arizona residents transferring from another institution.
- To qualify:
- Complete the FAFSA
- Arizona resident
- Family income of $120,000 or less
- Meet all Satisfactory Academic Progress standards, including maintaining a minimum 2.00 ASU cumulative GPA

How do these scholarships work?
Scholarships through the ASU Online Scholarship program are last-dollar scholarships, meaning they're applied after other eligible financial aid — like the Pell Grant — has been factored in. The last-dollar scholarship ensures you receive up to $375 in eligible aid for each credit hour you take, up to 12 credits per semester.
These scholarships can be awarded alongside financial aid and other eligible scholarships you receive. You can also receive these scholarships on their own, as long as you meet the eligibility requirements.
How do these last-dollar scholarships work with eligible financial aid?
The scholarship is added to other forms of financial aid, so that you receive a total aid amount of $375 per credit hour, up to 12 credit hours each semester. Use the table below to see how these last-dollar scholarships work alongside other aid you may receive.
Please note: The numbers below are based on a full-time 12-credit-hour course load and meeting all eligibility criteria. These are illustrative to show how certain scenarios work and are not an indication of how much you may actually receive.

As the table shows, the amount provided by the ASU Online Scholarship program (a “last-dollar scholarship”) may vary by student depending on their amount of federal financial aid provided per semester. The scholarship intends to fill the gap to ensure that the total aid equals $375 per credit, up to 12 credits, for all eligible students. As shown, there may be scenarios where students receive the total of $375 per credit hour from the scholarship if they are receiving no federal financial aid, while others receiving federal financial aid may receive less than $375 per credit hour from the scholarship.
Please note, federal financial aid amounts may vary semester to semester, even if you maintain eligibility for the scholarship in subsequent semesters. Our goal with this last-dollar scholarship program is to ensure that eligible students receive $375 per credit hour through a combination of federal financial aid and the scholarship.
How often can these scholarships be renewed?
Eligible first-year students can renew an ASU scholarship for up to 8 semesters. Eligible students transferring credits to ASU, continuing their degree, or re-entering after a pause can renew these scholarships for up to 6 semesters.
For all scholarships, you’ll need to meet all Satisfactory Academic Progress standards, including maintaining a minimum 2.00 ASU cumulative GPA.
Can these scholarships be used with other financial aid?
Yes, these scholarships are applied after financial aid has been counted toward your tuition.
A few exceptions apply:
- If your employer covers tuition through an ASU partner benefit, such as Starbucks, you are not eligible to combine these scholarships while receiving those benefits.
- International, ASU Local and military students are also not eligible.
